A living-history association since 1960, reactivated 1990
Company E, 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry
Over 100 military and civilian reenactors keeping the story of the Iron Brigade alive through living history events across Wisconsin and the Midwest.
About the Association
Living history, faithfully told.
The Second Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Association was originally started in 1960 with only a handful of members, to honor the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. After the association was later disbanded, it was restarted in 1990. Its main purpose has always centered upon preserving American Civil War heritage through reenactments, parades, school programs, and living history events — ideas that continue to be the focus today.
Using authentic-styled uniforms and equipment, along with drills, battles, and camp life portrayals, we believe the public might become more accurately aware what life might have been like for the average northern soldier during the Civil War.
Today the Second Wisconsin remains strong with more than 125 members as part of four companies and one artillery unit, covering the state of Wisconsin, participating in over thirty different events across the state each year. The Second Wisconsin Association continues to grow in large part due to its reputation as a truly warm, friendly group, willing to share its love of history with new members, and the public.
